Nutrigenomics

Nutrigenomics, or sometimes called nutrigenetics is analysis of your DNA along various functional pathways within the body. To make it easier to understand we can think of our DNA like a long sentence, within various parts of these sentences/DNA strands we have a spelling mistake called a SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism). We all have SNPs which we have inherited, but they are all in different places and influence our risk factors for certain diseases or dysfunction. Examples of this are: being a slow or fast metaboliser of caffeine which some people find makes them jittery and affects their sleep, some people tend to gain weight easily, more prone to anxiety, depression, diabetes, autoimmunity, inflammatory conditions, histamine intolerance, nutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalances.

Nutrigenomics is based on the science of our genes and their interaction between nutrition and lifestyle, this means that there are things we can do to change our genomic expression, our genes are not our destiny – genetics load the gun by it’s our diet and lifestyle that pulls the trigger! Where SNPs are overactive, we can reduce their activity and where they are underactive, we can stimulate their activity using nutrients and herbs that have been found in the research to have these effects. Knowing your unique genetic profile enables a nutrition and lifestyle protocol that’s personal to your needs.

There are 11 reports available:

Recommended for everyone.
  • Food response - coeliac disease (gluten) and lactose intolerance
  • Caffeine - sensitivity and metabolism
  • Microbiome - diversity
  • Vitamin needs - vitamins A, B9 (folate), B12 (cobalamin), C, D and K
  • Blood pressure - sodium-potassium balance & salt sensitive hypertension
  • Detoxification - glutathione
  • Metabolism - blood sugar control (insulin), appetite (leptin)
  • Inflammation - specific (infection response) and systemic
  • Circadian rhythm - early bird or night owl predisposition
Incorporates over 40 genes and 50 SNPS over 6 pathways helping to underpin energy regulation, longevity and healthspan.
  • Appetite Regulation
  • Nutrient Sensing
  • Sugar Metabolism
  • Fat Metabolism
  • Cholesterol and Bile
  • Mitochondria and Inflammation
This report looks at the lifecycle of oestrogen from production, activation, and elimination. Imbalances in oestrogen can lead to various female reproductive problems including acne and skin rashes.
Analysis of genes involved in hormone synthesis, transport, signalling and metabolism, an expanded hormonal report that includes the oestrogen balance report plus:
  • Steroid Hormones
  • Oestrogen
  • Detoxification
  • HPA Axis
  • HPG Axis
Methylation occurs billions of times every second and is involved in the majority of metabolic processes happening in the body. Imbalances in methylation contribute to many different chronic health conditions. 5 sub-cycles tested:
  • Folate cycle
  • Methionine cycle
  • Neurotransmitter cycle
  • Transsulphuration cycle
  • Urea cycle
Imbalance with accumulated histamine and the ability to break it down can lead to symptoms of high histamine such as skin irritation and breathing problems along with other symptoms that you may not realise can be related to high histamine such as headaches, digestive problems, insomnia, and anxiety. 3 pathways for the breakdown and removal of histamine are tested.
Toxins such as hormones, pesticides, food additives, alcohol and medications are broken down in the liver in two phases. Phase 1 breaks down the toxin and prepares it to be conjugated in phase 2 where various compounds are added to make the toxin water-soluble to be excreted. The detoxification report looks at phase 1 function along with all the phase 2 liver detoxification pathways.
Analyses the genes that impact serotonin (contentment), melatonin (sleep), noradrenalin and adrenalin (stress response), dopamine (motivation/mood), glutamate (neuronal excitation), GABA (calming) and endocannabinoids. Examples of neurotransmitter imbalances are depression, mania, OCD, anxiety, anger, addictions, and restlessness.
APOE helps remove cholesterol from the blood stream, there are 3 forms: E2, E3, E4. Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease, and insulin resistance has been associated with E4. Knowing your genotype can empower you to make preventative dietary and lifestyle changes. Also tested are:
  • Lipid Metabolism
  • Methylation
  • Inflammation
  • Detoxification
  • Neuroprotection
Nearly every cell in the body has receptors for thyroid hormones, this report analyses synthesis in the thyroid, activation in peripheral tissues, transport, metabolism, processing of vitamins A and D (cofactors), inhibitors and susceptibility to inflammation and autoimmunity.
Includes elements of your DNA profile shown to affect athletic performance.

Unlike other functional tests, your results will never change because your genetics is fixed. You can change the expression of your genes with diet and lifestyle but there is no need to do the tests more than once because your results will be the same.

These tests are available to anyone and include a consultation to discuss your results.

Cost = £350

  • DNA test kit.
  • 1 Report (Nutrient Core is recommended).
  • Analysis and interpretation.
  • 30-minute consultation (by phone or zoom) to discuss your results.
  • Diet and lifestyle recommendations.
  • Reports and recommendations sent by email.

Each additional report is + £150 and includes an extended consultation. Lifecode GX will keep your DNA for up to 3 months, any reports ordered after this time will need to include the purchase of a DNA test kit again where you will need to complete another cheek swab.

  1. Fill in the contact form below.
  2. Test kit will be sent to your home.
  3. The test is a non-invasive oral cheek swab which you send back to Lifecode GX in the prepaid envelope.
  4. 2-3 weeks later when your results are in, I will be in touch to arrange your support call and your DNA report will be emailed to you.
